I would like to know what makes them the best (experience, degree, atmosphere, etc.) and I would like them to shy away from prescribing any drugs, but rather work with the paitent to correct the problem. It is for a love of mine and she is willing, so I just need to make sure I send her to the best possible candidate and he/she can correct the problem. PRICE IS AN ISSUE AND IF IT IS A FEMALE THAT WOULD BE VERY BENEFICIAL. Please let me know why they are the best and how to contact them.

Time and time again ,research has demonstrated that the most effective treatment for depression is a double-barrelled approach utilizing both psychotherapy and medication. To discourage your loved one (or passively discourage by seeking only mental health professionals who do not prescribe medication for depression), you may unwittingly be doing her a great disservice. Depression has both psychological AND physiological components, and ignoring one (or both) will result in failed (or incomplete) treatment in most cases. I encourage you to re-consider the possiblity of seeking BOTH medication AND psychotherapy for the treatment of the depression of your loved one. The talking cure (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) which is often used in conjunction with SSRI drugs. 2. Light therapy. 3. Supplements such as St. Johns wort or SAM-e. 4. Acupuncture. 5. Exercise. 6. Electro Convulsive Therapy. Each of these methods has its own practitioners except ECT which is used usually as a last resort for those who don't respond to other treatment. You would have to look up local practitioners in each of these 5 categories or specify to a general psychology or psychiatry practitioner that you don't want Medications. If rankings are important to you, check out the US News and World Reports annual rankings of colleges. (google it) Also, consider costs - one may be much higher than another. Did one offer you any financial aid? All social work schools have to follow basically the same curriculum, since it is a professional degree that is subject to licensing, so there should not be an appreciable difference in the program itself. If you have a specific interest (gerontology or working with children, for example) you could look to see what each college is strong in, what they offer. Good luck! Kate

Of the three schools Case Western is probably the best school. I've known many graduates from there and they all speak highly of it. Ohio State is suppose to be a good "clinical" school (not top of the pack but good). Akron is known as having a good group work program. I would consider if you plan to live in any of the areas where the schools are or if any of the schools can provide internships where you want to live. Doing your internship where you hope to live can be very helpful as many internships can turn into jobs and connections for jobs. DA

Where can I buy creme fraiche in the Akron/Canton area?
I know you can't buy REAL creme fraiche, but I was wondering where I can buy the fake stuff. Also, sour cream will not work as a substitute in the recipe that I'm making. I've seen a recipe for it that lets cream buttermilk sit at room temperature for hours... but I'm just so afriad that it will spoil ad leave everyone sick. Anyone know where I can buy it?

You might be able to find it in a big grocery store like Giant Eagle. West Point Market has specialty foods and may be able to point you in the right direction. Don't waste gas- get the numbers online or from the phone book and call around. I've seen it at Wegman's in the gourmet cheese and pate section, but they don't have stores in Ohio. You can order it from Dean and Deluca online.

Yes, you are right about not making your own creme fraiche. In addition to the risk of spoilage, homemade creme fraiche is like homemade cheese. It's interesting, but it is usually not as good as the stuff made by professionals. If you have a Whole Foods Market near you, you can usually get creme fraiche there. I have seen it at the store in University Heights (in the Cedar Center). Good luck!!

my husband and i are thinking of moving to cleveland from akron. i work in downtown cleveland (near the galleria) and he works at akron u. we have a friend living in lakewood who he would carpool with occasionally, so somewhere not too far out of the way from that would be great. i really like little italy and coventry, but i'm not sure... we would like somewhere with a lot going on - art galleries, restaurants, bars, shops... and preferably a rapid station too. we're going to be renting and can spend about $750 on rent, a little more would be ok. thank you!

I think you should just weigh your pros & cons of living in either the east side or the west. Lakewood & the surrounding area does have a lively art scene. But Coventry & Little Italy does as well. Coventry & Little Italy have CIA right next door as well as the art museum. I live in the Coventry area, so to me I know of a lot more artsy things going on, I'm with an artist so I would say east side. I'm not that familiar with the west side, but I do know there is a striving art community over there as well. Coventry & little Italy are not that far away from both University Circle Rapid or the E.120th Rapid station. There is a lot of great food on Coventry & in Little Italy. Lakewood is known for its many bars. I think maybe spend more time in each neighborhood & see where you & your husband would prefer to live.

With your husband working in Akron, consider easy access to freeways as well as the ease of your downtown commute. Tremont or downtown apartments perhaps would provide the easiest and quickest access to I-77. East 4th Street/Euclid Ave. apartments reportedly begin at $525 plus about $100 for parking. http://www.east4thstreet.com/properties.php http://www.east4thstreet.com/home.php# East 4th would be tough to beat if you're looking for an exciting neighborhood. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/08/realestate/commercial/08fourth.html It's possible that you could find an affordable apartment in the warehouse district as well. http://www.warehousedistrict.org/district/ You could use the free downtown trolleys to get to work, so you would need only one car. Being so close to both Tower City and right on the Healthline, you would have no trouble getting to anywhere in Cleveland, such as Little Italy or Coventry. You could shop regularly at the West Side Market. An RTA monthly pass would cost only $85. If you add up how much it costs to drive a car even on errands, the savings could offset much of the cost of the pass, especially if gasoline prices go back up to recent highs. Tremont might be as cheap as Coventry, and would offer excellent bars, restaurants, galleries, etc. Tremont would be much closer to your husband's car-pooling friend in Lakewood and would offer much better freeway access than either Coventry or Little Italy. http://www.restoretremont.com/ http://www.pluggedincleveland.com/apartments_for_rent/tremont_ohio/ Have you considered looking at condos? Even without the new homebuyers credit, which may be extended, a condo on an after-tax basis might cost you less than renting, even including the maintenance fee! You can not be a vet assistant without some schooling or clinical work. Do you mean kennel assistant? That is what they hire for entry level employees. Also, it is very very hard to get a job in a vet- if you don't have any experience, you probably will not get a job. For my experience, I have a year at a vet office, work in a zoo in the summer, and have owned pretty much every family of animals since I was young- I still do not get hired. It is very competitive. Your best bet for some animal experience would be to voluteer at a shelter, work at a stable or livestock facility, try for a job at a dog sitting center, etc. Once you have that basis, people will start looking at you for a possible job canidate.

You could become a receptionist. But to be an assistant you will need to go to vet tech school. Usually community colleges or technical schools offer this curriculum.

Have you tried a resume or application. Go talk to the vet you want tell them your willing to donate a certain amount of hours for free.They do take on apprentices from time to time. Good Luck

Why don't you check out the Akron Zoo? I was just checking out their website the other day, and there's a section where you can sign up to volunteer. I know, it's probably not what you're looking for, but it is a foot in the door! Did you try Dr Gary Riggs office? He's the vet for the Akron zoo, but he's also an exotic animal vet. I think his office is in Norton. You can probably find him on Google.

if you see someone whose hair you like just go up to them and say... "I really like your hair where did you go get it done?" usually the person will be so flattered that they will tell you where they went and you can go check it out....maybe just go to the salon and get a shampoo set and see if you like how they style your hair before you get it cut its ok your allowed to do that...if you dont like them you never have to go back again this is a fail safe method to finding a good stylist

I go to Dr. Doty in Brunswick, Ohio. He allows you to make payments if you can not find free dental care. For a typical cleaning- the one I paid out of my pocket when I did not have insurance, cost around $160- x-rays included. Like I said though, he allows you to make payments as long as you pay in full by your next visit. Good luck!

I did volunteer work in Columbus when I was 13 and home taught and all I needed was my mom to verify it was true. I did it during school hours to. I think the same laws apply to you as if you were in school. i.e: don't work past a certain hour and limited hours, I think you just need to verify to the employer that you are indeed home taught and that's it. I don't think you need a permit after you are 16. Good luck!

yes, you do need to get a work permit. The employers are prohibited by law from hiring a minor without a permit from the minor's local school district. Just go to the office at the nearest high school or to the superintendant's office, and they will give you or direct you to the correct paperwork -- which is mostly what a work permit is (although you will need a physical.)

I am not sure if there are any apartments in America that is below $450. If there is it is either section 8 or a shack. Do you have any free local newspapers in your area? You could try looking there! What about local supermarkets? Sometimes people post ads at the entrance when you walk in. You might be able to get a room or share a house for $450 and below. Volunteer at the daycare instead of becoming an employee. Tell the daycare what you need- you are doing this for a high school elective- and they will help you out. They want people who are serious about becoming child care workers, and they always will take free help. If it's for high school, they are interested in you getting experience and education about daycare. They aren't interested if you get paid.

You have to be 18 to count as ratio. Contact centers with your teachers help, and you just might have to volunteer. Some centers will pay a small stipend for your help. You just can't be alone with the kids, ever, till you are 18.

It depends on what type of massage you want to do.... if your looking at doing theraputic massage-- try a chiropractice office. if your looking into the spa type- look into resorts, spas and what not. if your willing to travel and move, im in Western NE and am looking for another therapist for my business.... my aunt lives in the springs and she says there are lots of places there that are looking to hire fresh hands.

High end work-out places often have rooms for rent for massage therapists and an automatic client feed from the people who are already visiting. If you want a job, rehab places are using MT's more and more, but the pay isn't as good as if you were independent. Day spas are popping up everywhere and have opportunities for you also.

I have two job offers...Sterling Jewelers on Ghent Rd in Akron, OH. and Time Warner Cable in Canton, OH....who do you think would be the better company to work for?

Sterling is a much better opportunity. Time Warner sucks. I know lots of people who were miserable there. Besides AT&T is going to put those losers out of business soon!
