How can I get a job as a veterinary assistant in Akron, OH?
I'm going to be applying for admission to vet school in two years and I need experience working in a vet clinic. I've sent out resumes and called to follow up, but no one will hire me or even take my calls. Does anyone have any tips to actually get hired?

talk to your vet that what i did actually my vet is my familys good friend so it was easy to ask her now i go over when ever i can

You can not be a vet assistant without some schooling or clinical work. Do you mean kennel assistant? That is what they hire for entry level employees. Also, it is very very hard to get a job in a vet- if you don't have any experience, you probably will not get a job. For my experience, I have a year at a vet office, work in a zoo in the summer, and have owned pretty much every family of animals since I was young- I still do not get hired. It is very competitive. Your best bet for some animal experience would be to voluteer at a shelter, work at a stable or livestock facility, try for a job at a dog sitting center, etc. Once you have that basis, people will start looking at you for a possible job canidate.

You could become a receptionist. But to be an assistant you will need to go to vet tech school. Usually community colleges or technical schools offer this curriculum.

Have you tried a resume or application. Go talk to the vet you want tell them your willing to donate a certain amount of hours for free.They do take on apprentices from time to time. Good Luck

Why don't you check out the Akron Zoo? I was just checking out their website the other day, and there's a section where you can sign up to volunteer. I know, it's probably not what you're looking for, but it is a foot in the door! Did you try Dr Gary Riggs office? He's the vet for the Akron zoo, but he's also an exotic animal vet. I think his office is in Norton. You can probably find him on Google.
